Conductor, oh conductor, may your eternal rest be filled with the sweetest melodies. A life well-played.

Have you had that happen to you yet, Kanye?

I’m not even finished watching the telecast yet, and I can safely say that the 50th annual Grammy Awards show is the best in years. It was only 2-3 years ago that I had completely written the show off for selling its soul to crap hop and crap pop.

While there have been a few misses along the way tonight (Beyoncé‘s lip-synced intro bit and some of the Jesus medley performers), all in all it’s fantastic. Kanye West didn’t talk too much shit and gave an awesome performance, Fergie can sing, Brad Paisley can rock, and Alicia Keys stole my heart.

It’s kind of sad how they are milking the potential train wreck of Amy Winehouse’s performance though. I honestly welled up at the dance performance from LOVE early in the show.

p.s. – Congratulations to the Foo Fighters. Fuck yeah.

Open Letter to Amy Lee

Amy,

Why are you so vindictive? Can you not enjoy the least bit of success without inciting drama?

I’m ashamed to say that it was only about a week ago that thoughts started cropping up in my head prompting me to consider one last attempt at finding a redeemable personality underneath your shell. And then you go and write this.

It’s pathological how you handle those in your life that exhibit any sense of drive or success. I know you don’t see it that way right now, and may never see it, but one thing I do have faith in. I have faith in the wheel of karma. It’s still spinning. It is unavoidable.

You have disappointed me for the last time. I no longer harbor hope or expectation for anything honorable from you. Be well.

The well has been poisoned for awhile. Must have been all the monkeys flinging poo down the hole. The pestilence can no longer be looked over or avoided. So the only thing that can be done will be done.

If I were smarter or more resourceful, I could write a book about social dynamics on the internet. On second thought, there’s nothing new under the sun, so I’ll just amble on by.

You Are Beautiful

I found out about this project from a post on thepiratesdilemma.com. I’m probably way behind the curve on this one, but I found its message worthy of spreading to those who, like me, may not have seen it yet.

You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture.

The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization. We’re just attempting to make the world a little better.

Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Nothing is sacred. Everything that has a perceived value becomes commodified. We work extremely hard that this message is received as a simple act of kindness, and nothing more.

Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism.

You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message. Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization.

DreamHost Promo Code Changes

I’ve been hosting all of my web sites on DreamHost since Q3 2005. After repeated (about once every 3 months) hardware failures with my previous shared hosting provider (YRHost), I decided it was time for me to find a more reliable boat. On the recommendation of a friend, I looked at DreamHost. They recently changed their shared hosting to just one plan. You start off with 500 GB of disk space (automatically increases weekly by 2 GB), 2 TB of monthly bandwidth (automatically increases weekly by 40 GB), one free domain registration (for the life of your account), and a 97-day money back guarantee. I could go on and on about the features available from DreamHost, but you could just as easily visit their site to see the full list yourself!

I have some new promo (coupon) codes for DreamHost that you can use to either save money off your initial hosting bill or get some additional features FOR FREE.

DS50 = “Fifty dollars off!”

DSDOMAIN = “One extra free domain registration!”

DSIP = “Free lifetime unique IP!”

DSDOMAINIP = “Free extra domain and unique IP!”

Giving Thanks

Thanks Giving – is a time of gratitude for family and further
for extending the circle of our loving beyond the borders of mere flesh and blood.

Let’s try to be mindful, gratefully noticing the good
in our lives with gratitude. But let’s not stop at that. Why
not take it to the next step – to a deeper level, by practicing
gratitude. Mindfulness in action. Share in some way. Think about what
you have with deep appreciation and rather than just giving in to greed,
wanting more of this or that, or the next this or that – Just Give. With
so much need in the world – all around, in each of us, and in all of us, just give.
There is justness and righteousness in it.
